Members of Cordova’s Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #10032 and community volunteers turned out in the pouring rain on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31, to honor the memory of local veterans now in their final resting place, with American flags at each gravesite.

The volunteers of all ages ranged from Clydde Torgerson former commander of VFW Post #10032 to Cordova’s Lone Boy Scout, Jacob Ranney, to youngsters like Eleanor Rose. Placing flags at the tombs of local veterans is an annual VFW Memorial Day event, as it is nationwide, from small towns like Cordova to Arlington National Cemetery, where President Joe Biden on Memorial Day 2021, lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
