20th Annual Memorial Gathering

Chugach Regional Resources Commission (CRRC) invites you to attend their annual traditional subsistence gathering, Our Subsistence Resources. The event will touch on the topics of: shellfish, fish, marine mammals, plants, terrestrial mammals, and migratory birds.
The first annual gathering began in 1999 and has been held every year closest to the anniversary of the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill and focuses on natural resource and environmental issues of concern to the Chugach Tribes. The Gathering is an opportunity for attendees to learn more about and engage in various topics around our subsistence resources. During our 20th annual event, local, regional, state, and national speakers will present on a variety of food security, business, management, harvesting, and community issues, with special emphasis on Indigenous subsistence harvesting. The conference will also have a couple of sessions on food preparation demonstrations, and a virtual tour of our Alutiiq Pride Marine Institute. Our virtual platform provides a number of ways for interaction and personal engagement.
This year’s event also includes local “pop up” Gatherings in each of our communities, Chenega, Cordova, Seward, and Valdez. Each pop-up will be connected through Attendify, where they will be able to view the virtual stage. This event has grown from a small group of about 50 participants in 1999 to over 700 in 2019, so far we have close to 100 pre-registered attendees. This event provides a valuable forum to share information and to receive feedback from the villages on what they feel is important to them, including any natural resource issues of concern that CRRC should be addressing.
