At Your Library: Good reads about bad things

Recently we marked two tragic events that affected are community, and while reading about them isn’t always the most pleasurable read, it still provides us with a reflection on the incidents.

The 1964 Good Friday Earthquake has been captured in a number of books that provide facts and stories about the massive trembler that shook the Southcentral area.

  • 8.6 The Great Alaskan Earthquake March 27, 1964 by Stan Cohen
  • The Day that Cries Forever : Stories of the Destruction of Chenega during the 1964 Alaska Earthquake. Compiled and edited by John E. Smelcer

The 1989 Exxon Valdez Oil Spill also occurred on a Good Friday and left a lasting legacy on Cordova and the Prince William Sound area.  There are a number of good reads on the Oil Spill and a few new ones that you might not have spotted on the shelves.
