One fatality in Cordova car crash

Enrique Zamudio, age 18, was injured in a one-car crash Tuesday and died shortly after being transported to Cordova Community Medical Center. Police, fire and EMS units responded to the accident around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

John David Stimson, 19, known as J.D., was driving a 2003 Nissan pickup truck when he lost control and struck a utility pole on First Street near the Cordova Terry Terminal, according to police.

Stimson was arrested on four charges — two felony counts of manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide and two misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence and possession of a weapon while intoxicated, according to court records.

Zamudio was a 2016 graduate of Cordova High School.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
