Organizers of the 2018 Bristol Bay Fish Expo, a benefit for Naknek’s Little Angels Child Care Academy, are seeking sponsors for several lively events planned on June 8-9, on the eve of the Bristol Bay sockeye salmon fishery.

These include a dressed for success fisheries fashion show, speed hiring for captains and potential crew members, and the new this year mug up history event to share canned fish stories.

Organizer Katie Copps-Wilson, a mother of three and physician’s assistant at Camai Health Center in Naknek, said the first Bristol Bay Fish Expo, which raised upwards of $15,000, was inspired by the need for child care services in this coastal fishing community.

“People started moving out because there was no child care,” she said. Then in September 2016 the Bristol Bay Borough allocated $80,000 toward materials to create the childcare facility within the local high school in this town of 544.
