Cordova boys sweep Nenana, remain undefeated in conference play

Led by high scoring Cody Sjostedt, the Cordova Wolverines topped visiting Nenana 67-50 and 61-47 in conference action on Jan. 22-23.

The 6-4 senior scored 42 points in the two-game series, with 20- and 22-point performances. However, the wins were not a one-man effort, as first year coach Bert Adams utilized his bench freely in both games, resulting in eight Wolverines scoring each night

The first game provided a pair of statistical anomalies for the CHS squad. They did not score on any three-point attempts, which are often a trademark of their offense; and Sjostedt did not shoot a single free throw in the contest.

Christian Adams and Evan Gatton also hit double digits with 10 points apiece in the first game.

The Wolverines remain undefeated in conference play, with a 4-0 record. They are now 9-2 overall at the midpoint of their season. That record does not include a pair of losses to Valdez in endowment games, which by Alaska School Activities Association (ASAA) rule do not count against their 22-game limit. Proceeds from those games goes to support the Alaska Endowment for Youth Activities.

Nenana won both JV games, by scores of 46-37 and 49-45. Evan Gatton was top scorer for Cordova in the first game with 14 points; Rustyn Bradford led with 16 in the second contest.
