It’s time for Wolverine basketball

The first home basketball games on the season will be played at CHS Court today and tomorrow, Oct. 19-20, against visiting junior high squads from Grace Christian of Anchorage.

The Cordova junior high squads have already played road games at Valdez and Glennallen, so will be in mid-season form when they square off against the Grizzlies.

The opening tip of the boys “B” contest on Friday at 5:30 p.m. will historic, launching the first basketball game on Cordova High’s new gym floor. The sparkling hardwood surface replaces the 50-year-old court that was part of the original high school construction back in 1967.

Parts of that surface that included the logo and CHS name have been saved and mounted on the gym walls.

3A Grace Christian is a former Cordova High conference opponent and will likely provide tough competition for the young Wolverines.

Friday’s games schedule features “B” boys at 5:30 p.m., followed by “A” girls at 6:45 p.m. and “A” boys at 8 p.m..

Saturday’s games will begin with “B” girls at 2 p.m., followed by “B” boys at 3:15 p.m., “A” girls at 4:30 p.m., “A” boys at 5:45 p.m., and “B” girls again at 7 p.m.
