Seeding and pairings for the 2024 2A Interior Conference Basketball Tournament were announced yesterday. The four-day double elimination playoff will be hosted by Nenana on March 6-10.

Seeding, which is based on season record against conference opponents only, determines first round opponents.

The Cordova girls squad, seeded No. 5, is scheduled to play No. 4 Ninilchik, on March 6 at 7:30 p.m. Because there are seven teams in the girls bracket, that is scheduled to be the only game that day.

A full slate of games is to begin March 7 at 9 a.m.

Cordova’s boys, seeded No. 1, are set to play their first game on March 7 at 4:30 p.m. Their opponent will be the winner of an earlier contest between No. 4 Tok and No. 5 Nenana.

At stake for the boys and girls teams are two coveted berths at the State 2A Championship in Anchorage on March 14-16. Both the winners and runner-ups from the four 2A Conference playoffs scattered all over the state meet in an eight-team shootout under the bright lights of the Alaska Airlines Center.

It is the dream of every team in Alaska from 1A to 4A to advance to “The Show,” also known as “ASAA March Madness, Alaska Style.”

Cordova’s boys, who went a perfect 7-0 in conference play, easily handled both potential first round opponents Tok and Nenana during regular season play here in Cordova.

Cordova’s girls lost to their first-round opponent Ninilchik 33-20 in the Cordova Tipoff back in early January 2024, but as a young team has shown much improvement.

However, come playoff time, every team starts out with a perfect 0-0 win-lost record.

Complete Ranking for Seeding:

  • Girls: Nenana 1, Glennallen 2, SuValley 3, Ninilchik 4, Cordova  5, Tok 6, Effie Kokrine 7.
  • Boys: Cordova 1, Ninilchik 2, SuValley 3, Tok 4, Nenana 5, Effie Kokrine 6.
