Law & Order: Oct. 26 – Nov. 1

The following incidents were reported to the Cordova Police Department between 10-26-18 thru 11-1-18. Any charges reported in these press releases are merely accusations and the defendant and/or defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.                        

OCTOBER 26, Friday:

1:48 a.m. Caller reported a bear on his property had just broken into his trash cans. An officer responded but the bear had already left into the woods. 9:10 a.m. A store manager reported a possible shop lifting incident caught on camera. An officer responded to the scene and reviewed the camera footage. 10:10 a.m. An Alaska Wildlife Trooper reported a vehicle with a broken window parked by the harbor. An officer responded to the location to investigate. 10:39 p.m. Caller reported a man sitting on the side walk near Chase Ave. and the Copper River Highway. An officer responded to the scene and located an intoxicated pedestrian laying on the sidewalk. The individual was taken into custody under Alaska Title 47.

OCTOBER 27, Saturday:

12:08 a.m. Caller requested a welfare check for his neighbor’s residence. An officer responded and found everything to be fine. Ilanka Health Center requested an ambulance to transport a patient to CCMC.

OCTOBER 28, Sunday:

2:06 a.m. Caller reported an individual with a severe laceration that occurred during a fight. An officer responded and arrested Charity Schandel, age 31 of Cordova, Alaska, for Domestic Violence Assault charges. 4:39 a.m. Caller reported an intoxicated pedestrian in the road. An officer responded and was unable to locate the individual. 8:00 a.m. Caller reported someone had taken photos from their social media account and is pretending to be them. An officer is currently investigating this incident.     

OCTOBER 29, Monday:

4:42 a.m. Caller reported a dog running down Lake Ave. An officer responded and located both the dog and the owner.

OCTOBER 30, Tuesday:

1:23 a.m. An officer was in route to a bar to conduct a security check. Upon arrival the officer witnessed several people running into the bar frantically. The officer entered the premise and found two people on the floor wrestling. The officer arrested Simone Nolan, age 59 of Cordova, Alaska, for Public Disturbance and Resisting Arrest.

OCTOBER 31, Wednesday:

6:14 a.m. Caller reported a possible drunk driver on a motorcycle heading into town at a high rate of speed. An officer located the vehicle and arrested Sean Schittek, age 41 of Cordova, Alaska, for DUI.

NOVEMBER 1, Thursday:
6:30 a.m. Caller reported possible gunshots on Whitshed road. An officer responded to the area and was unable to locate any sign of illegal activity. 8:13 p.m. A landlord requested an officer stand by while she retrieves a former tenants belongings from an apartment.
NOTES FROM CORDOVA DMV:

DMV HOURS: 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Tuesday through Thursday unless otherwise posted. Motorcycle testing is still available, weather permitting. DMV has moved to 602 Railroad Ave.  Payments now accepted for dog licenses, ATV/snow machine registrations and citations.
