Lady Wolverines top Kodiak at SoHi Tournament

The Cordova Lady Wolverines picked up their first win of the season, topping 4A Kodiak 50 – 45 in the final day of the Dec. 13-15 SoHi Tipoff in Soldotna.

Abby Bourgeois led CHS with 15 points, while Edrea Navarro and Riley Butler were also in double digits, with 13 and 11 points respectively.

Cordova lost to 4A Soldotna 65-35 in the first round on Dec. 13. Navarro topped CHS scoring with 14 points. 3A Bethel edged Cordova 31-22 in the second round on Dec. 14. Freshman Cali Sjostedt led the Lady W’s with 6 points.

Navarro was selected to the All-Tournament team.

“It was a great experience for the girls early on in the season, playing against much larger schools,” Cordova Coach Brad Sjostedt said. “We’re still working out the kinks, but they quickly improved over the weekend.”

The Lady Wolverines travel to the MatSu Valley for more tough competition on Dec. 21- 22 for games against 3A Redington and Houston, followed by another set of road games in Anchorage in the Rally the Regions tournament on Jan. 2-5.

Their first home games will be in conference action against SuValley on January 11-12.
