Cordova boys sweep SuValley, remain undefeated

The Cordova Wolverines continued their fast start to the 2018-19 season, sweeping conference foe SuValley 61-50 and 62-43 in home action here on Jan. 11 -12.

Using aggressive full-court pressure and a deep bench, CHS wore down the Rams to remain defeated so far, improving their record to 8-0.

In the first game, it took the Wolverines a quarter to get untracked. SuValley led 12-5 after eight minutes, before Cordova, led by 10 points from Christian Adams, exploded for 25 points, to lead 30-26 at halftime. CHS continued to stretch the margin in the second half against the fiesty Rams, winning by 11.

Adams topped Cordova with 23 points, Kaiden Graves added 12, Billy Bailey 11.

In the second game, the Rams again stayed close for a half before wilting under CHS pressure.  The visitors trailed 27-22 at halftime, but were outscored by Cordova 35-21 in the second half.

Adams sat out the game with an ankle injury, but Cordova displayed its depth, with four players in double digits. Evan Gatton led the scoring parade with 17, Graves added 16, Rustyn Bradford 13, and Billy Bailey 13.

The Wolverines resume home action in the Cordova Tipoff this weekend.

SuValley: Heuton 1, Jolley 5, Drover 7, Pinard 10, Kehoe 16, Snyder 10.  Game 2:  Graves 16, Gatton 17, Bailey 10, Carrillo 4, Bradford 13, Estes 2. SuValley: Heuton 2, Jolley 5, Drover 11, Pinard 4, Waite 1, Goodman 3, Kehoe 7, Snyder 10.

Due to late arrival of the ferry, there were no JV games Friday. Cordova won the close Saturday JV contest 42-39. Trevor Dundas was top scorer for Cordova with 13 points.
