Central Peninsula Hospital administrator named to top post at API

Matt Dammeyer, chief operating officer and assistant administrator of Central Peninsula Hospital, has been chosen as the new chief executive officer for Alaska Psychiatric Institute, the Dunleavy administration announced on April 22.

Dammeyer has a strong background in clinical care, community health and substance use disorders and has held positions as director of behavioral health, clinical director and psychologist for health care organizations, and in private practice, according to Adam Crum, state Commissioner of the Department of Health and Social Services.

One of his projects at Central Peninsula Hospital was directing a restructuring of the hospital’s residential substance use disorder services unit prioritizing clinical outcomes for patients with long-term recovery as a central goal, Crum said.

Dammeyer earned a doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Wyoming and has additional academic training from the University of Colorado, University of Alaska, and the Medical University of South Carolina. He began his new job on April 22, while acting CEO Gavin Carmichael returned to his post as chief operating officer at API.
