Copper River Delta Shorebird Festival

Book signing

“Children of the First People” author Tricia Brown, photographer Roy Corral and Aaliyah Tiedeman, who is featured in their book, will present and sign books at 6 p.m. Friday, May 3 at the Fireplace Nook of the Cordova Public Library.

Author/photographer talk

“Children of the First People” author Tricia Brown and photographer Roy Corral will hold an author/photographer talk at 4 p.m., followed by a book signing with Aaliyah Tiedeman, Sunday, May 5 at the Ilanka Cultural Center.

Rummage Sale

A rummage sale will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday, beginning Monday, May 6 and running until Saturday, May 18 at the Salvation Army on Main Street. For more information call Steve Leppert at 907-424-6262.

Fishermen picnic

Trident Seafoods’ fishermen picnic will be from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, May 10 at the North Plant Galley, 301 Jim Poor Ave.

Movie night

Cordova Gear presents “Free Solo” at 7 p.m. Friday, May 10 at North Star Theatre, located in the Cordova Center.

Harbor Cleanup Day

The Native Village of Eyak is hosting Harbor Cleanup Day from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11 at the Fisherman’s Memorial.

Used book sale

The Hospital Auxiliary will be hosting a used book sale between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. until May 23 in the basement of the hospital. Hardbacks are $1; paperbacks 50 cents. There are also puzzles and DVDs for sale by donation. Proceeds will go to the Hospital Auxiliary.

Cordova Cleanup Day

The Cordova Chamber of Commerce will host Cordova Cleanup Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 25. Meet at the Cordova Center at 10 a.m. to get bags, gloves and location assignments. Participants meet at noon at the Cordova Center for a barbeque lunch, free for all volunteers. Volunteers will also receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win door prizes.


MONDAYS

Moms, Pops and Tots!

A play group for children from infants to 4 years old is open from 10 a.m. to noon Mondays at the Masonic Lodge. The group focuses on exploring developmental issues and building on each child’s strengths through large-motor and small-motor skills play, pretend play and sensory play. Al-Anon in Cordova

TUESDAYS

Gospel sing-along

Join members of the St. George Episcopal Church on Tuesdays from 4-5 p.m. at the Cordova Community Medical Center for their Tuesday gospel sing-along, started in honor of Frances Mallory, and led by Christina Vican and Rev. Belle Mickelson. Anyone who wants to sing or play gospel songs is welcome to join to bring smiles to the long-term residents and hospital staff. For more information contact Belle on 907-424-5143.

Men’s Bible study

A men’s Bible study, led by Matt Rush, will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays at the Red Dragon.

Knit & Lit Book Club

Bring your knitting and join the Knit & Lit Book Club at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 30 at the fireplace in the Cordova Public Library. The meetings are the last Tuesdays of every month. This month’s books are “The Immortalists” by Chloe Benjamin and “The Book of Dust” by Philip Pullman. May’s book will be “The Underground Railroad” by Colson Whitehead and June’s book will be “Noughts & Crosses” by Malorie Blackman.

Little Ones at Storytime

Little Ones at Storytime, with youth services librarian Anna Hernandez, is 10:30-11:30 a.m. Wednesdays in the Cordova Public Library. Join Anna for stories, songs, and finger plays, geared toward preschool ages.

Teen Art

Teen Art with Paula Payne will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesdays in the Education Room at the Cordova Center.

Open studio life drawing

An open studio life drawing class Wednesdays from 6-9 p.m., began Jan. 30 at the Cordova Center education room. A model fee donation of $5-10 is suggested and drop-ins are welcome. For more information call Paula Payne at 907-424-6667.

After School Art

After School Art with Debbie Carlson will be held 3-4 p.m. Fridays in the Education Room at the Cordova Center. This program is geared towards grades 1-4.

Patch the Pirate Kids Club

Patch the Pirate Kids Club will be held 3-5 p.m. Fridays at the MorningStar Independent Baptist Church, at their new location at the old troopers building, for children grades first through sixth.


SATURDAYS

Homeport

Homeport is open from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday nights. Enter at the side door, below the Cordova Community Baptist Church, and enjoy coffee, desserts, free Wi-Fi and board games.


SUNDAYS

Movies with Alec

Join librarian Alec for Sunday Movies from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays at the Education Room in the Cordova Center. Free popcorn is provided. Choose from the movie selection at the library. First come, first serve. The event is free for the public.

Youth gathering

Attend youth gatherings Sunday nights at 6 p.m. at the Church of the Nazarene Education Building. Students grades 7-12 are welcome. Call Pastor Steve Leppert at 907-429-6262 for more details.
