Avid readers of the Cordova Public Library tend to have favorite authors and know exactly which shelf to head for when they walk in the door; I am one of them. Being freshly retired but still a lover of all things books has me perusing some authors – not new, but new-to-me.
As I sit at home this autumn recovering from knee surgery, I have been tearing right through my usual authors known for not-too-scary murder mysteries and who-dun-its. I know now, it’s time to branch out and expand my repertoire once again.
My next selection is the newest and eighth novel of Ann Patchett called “The Dutch House.” A riff on historical fiction with little bits of fairytales weaving in and out. An evil stepmother from Cinderella; a gingerbread like house from Hansel and Gretel and children trying to create a memory of a perfect childhood that never really existed.
I am looking forward to trying this novel by Ann Patchett — she has received numerous awards and recognitions for her writings over the past many years and is a popular author among “Goodreads” followers.
Other new books on the Cordova Public Library shelves include: “Outfox”by Sandra Brown, “Vendetta in Death” by J.D. Robb and “Land of Wolves” by Craig Johnson.
Next week — we’ll feature some family reads for the holiday season and breaks from school. Keep reading!
