The Wolverines from deep in the Interior of Alaska were no match for their coastal counterparts, as the Cordova Wolverines clobbered Tok in conference action here last weekend.
CHS Coach Bert Adams loaded the lineup with 13 players, and all saw action in lopsided wins by scores of 78-37 on Feb. 28, and 73-26 on Saturday, Feb. 29.
The scores could have been higher, had not the ASAA Mercy Rule, which imposes a running clock for the remainder of a game in which the point margin is 40 points or more, went into effect in both contests.
Credit Tok for effort. They never quit attacking the basket, and Ravyn Almquist-Corgill displayed amazing dribbling skills in going coast-to-coast through Cordova’s full-court press to score most of their points.
He finished with 21 points on Friday and 10 points on Saturday.
The Friday game was almost over before it even started. Behind the deadly three-point shooting of Kaiden Graves, Cordova racked up more points in the first quarter than Tok had for the entire game. Graves hit his first 5 three-point attempts, and added another trey plus a ho-hum two pointers, to score 20 points in that stanza alone. CHS had 27 points in that opening period.
Graves played sparingly after that and finished with 27 points.
Fellow senior Christian Adams took up the cause in the second period, tossing in six two pointers and a free throw for 13 of his 21 total. Rus Bradford also broke double digits with 10.
Saturday it was more of the same. Graves and Adams each played only the first two quarters, and each tallied 18 points. Bradford added 11 this time.
The wins improved Cordova’s mark to 18-3 overall, and 8-0 in Conference play.
