Anyone engaging in outdoor recreation outside of Cordova should be aware of changing environmental conditions, the Forest Service’s Cordova Ranger District announced Friday, April 3.

Due to increasing temperatures and rain, conditions are changing constantly and ice on ponds, lakes and sloughs is deteriorating rapidly, according to the announcement. Unplowed roads and trails with soft snow may remain difficult to travel, and wet snow avalanches are also expected to occur in the mountains. Before engaging in outdoor recreation, residents are advised to let someone else know of their plans and to pack the appropriate gear, officials said.

Residents with comments or questions are encouraged to contact the Cordova Ranger District at 907-424-7661 or dave.zastrow@usda.gov.
