Register to vote by Oct. 4

Alaska residents have until Sunday, Oct. 4 to register to vote or to update their registration.

Division of Election officials note that their offices will be open from noon to 4 p.m. on that day to accommodate everyone.

On Sunday, Oct. 19, Alaska Day, the Division of Election offices will again be open for the first day of early in-person voting. Absentee, in-person, electronic transmission and special needs voting also begins on Oct. 19.

Oct. 29 is the deadline for write-in candidates to submit a letter of intent.

On the general Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3, polls will be open for registered voters to vote in person from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

A review of questioned ballot envelopes begins on Nov. 5.

The deadline for the receipt of absentee ballots mailed from within the United States, and the U.S. territories of Puerto Rico, Guam, the Virgin Islands and American Samoa is Nov. 13. These ballots must be postmarked by Nov. 3 to be eligible to be counted. The deadline to receive by-mail ballots mailed from overseas address is Nov. 18. These ballots also must be postmarked by Nov. 3 to be eligible. The final regional count of absentee and questioned ballots also is to be completed by Nov. 18.

The target date for certification of the general election in Alaska is Nov. 25.
