Friday, Aug. 13, a Cordova man was ordered to to serve one year imprisonment, which he may serve using an electronic monitoring system, after he pled guilty to misconduct involving a controlled substance in the third degree. Michael D. Glasen, 44, of Cordova, was additionally ordered to complete 36 months of probation and 80 hours of community service as part of a plea deal in which a more severe charge was dismissed.

Glasen was charged with misconduct involving a controlled substance in the second and third degrees Feb. 5 after Cordova police, working in partnership with the United States Postal Inspection Service and the Anchorage Airport Interdiction Team, discovered illicit drugs that had been mailed to Cordova. The drugs were found with the help of Eyak, a black Labrador detection dog that joined the Cordova Police Department in 2019. About 17 grams of a substance believed to be heroin and about 27 grams of a substance believed to be methamphetamine were seized during the operation, police reported at the time. Glasen’s charge of misconduct involving a controlled substance in the second degree was later dismissed by the prosecution.
