Registration is open to participate in three virtual public meetings with the Bureau of Land Management. These meetings will be used to gather public comment for a supplemental environmental impact statement on the Coastal Plain oil and gas leasing program.
The meetings, all with a call-in option, are currently scheduled for 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Sept. 14; 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Sept. 15; and 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Sept. 16.
An Interior Department order issued in June called for suspension of all activities related to implementing the program in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge pending completion of a comprehensive analysis under the National Environmental Policy Act.
BLM officials said a comprehensive analysis of potential environmental impacts of the program began on Aug 4, including addressing deficiencies identified in the Interior Department’s order.
Public scoping will end on Oct. 4.
Registration is available online at cdv.tiny.us/blm to participate in these meetings, which will be livestreamed on the BLM Alaska’s Facebook page. Affected Alaska communities may request meetings specific to their communities by emailing blm_ak_coastalplain_supplementalEIS@blm.gov.
Comments on issues, impacts and potential new alternatives to be analyzed may be submitted electronically to cdv.tiny.us/blm2.
