As we head into the new year, we wanted to re-introduce ourselves to the community and share some holiday cheer. We write for you, and we want you to know who we are! Rachel Kallander

What is your position?

Owner and publisher. 

How long have you been with The Cordova Times?

Since July 2022 – the month that we finalized the transfer of ownership! 

What’s the most rewarding part of your role at The Cordova Times?

I am a believer in increased awareness. I believe that increased awareness manifests in an informed public that is better empowered to advocate on behalf of the issues, people, and places that they most care about. The Cordova Times plays a role in increasing awareness and dialogue. That is what motivates me to think big about this newspaper. Not to mention, I get to work with the awesome team that makes everything at The Cordova Times happen week in and week out.  

What’s your favorite hobby to do in your free time?

Playing with my toddlers, meditation, beach bonfires at Boswell Bay, and laughing with friends. 

What’s your favorite holiday dish?

My mom’s spaghetti and meatballs – any time of year! A close second would be Prince William Sound oysters with champagne.  

Do you have any traditions around the start of the new year?

Plenty of time outdoors and thinking about my intentions for the coming year.  

What’s your favorite way to eat seafood?

Miso black cod. 

Grace Schultz 

What is your position?

Advertising and partnerships manager. 

How long have you been with The Cordova Times?

Since July 2022. 

What’s the most rewarding part of your role at The Cordova Times?

The community feedback: hearing how many people genuinely love the paper and what we provide for the community as a whole – from advertisers to consumers. 

What’s your favorite hobby to do in your free time?

I enjoy writing poetry and dancing with my friends.  

What’s your favorite holiday dish?

Lebanese kousa or Lebanese beans and rice.  

Do you have any traditions around the start of the new year?

Mini goals so I can make sure I have some intentions set. 

What’s your favorite way to eat seafood?

With my mouth. 

Alex Jensen 

What is your position?

Designer. 

How long have you been with The Cordova Times?

Since October 2023. 

What’s the most rewarding part of your role at The Cordova Times?

Getting to design the layout of the newspaper each week to highlight the different news and events happening in and near Cordova.  

What’s your favorite hobby to do in your free time?

I enjoy cooking, trying new food spots, and hiking. 

What’s your favorite holiday dish?

While not a dish, I’d say it’s my grandma’s homemade Chex mix.  

Do you have any traditions around the start of the new year?

Going snowshoeing on New Year’s Day.  

What’s your favorite way to eat seafood?

All the ways.
