Cordova District Fishermen United (CDFU) would like to extend our gratitude for local fishermen who donated a portion of their catch from the June 13 opener to provide salmon to local elders for our Senior Salmon Day on June 17.
We were able to collect 176 fish and provide each elder with 2 fillets each. We would also like to the thank our participating tenders for assisting with the collection day, and local processors — Trident, 60° North and Copper River Seafoods — who all went above and beyond to assist us with the program and processed the donated fish free of charge, including filleting and packaging it for our local senior citizens. This year, we were fortunate to be able to offer half of the fish fresh and half of it frozen and vacuum packed, which was an incredible service to our elders, many of whom are on a limited income or have physical difficulties processing fish on their own.
CDFU coordinates Senior Salmon Day every summer as a way to give back to the community, and we are so grateful for the generosity of our fleet, tenders, and processors when it comes to these fish donations. The impact runs deep in the community, and we could not do this without your willingness to contribute.
Thank you again, from all of us at CDFU!
