Pairings for the Interior Conference Basketball Championships were announced late Sunday, March 8.
This year’s playoff will be hosted by SuValley on March 12 -14.
On the girls side, Nenana was seeded #1 and SuValley #2. The Cordova girls, with a 5-5 Conference record, were seeded #3, and will face #6 Effie Kokrine in the first game of the playoffs at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 12.
Cordova’s boys, with a 9-1 record, were seeded # 1, and will play their first game at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, against the winner of an earlier game between #4 Tok and #5 Effie Kokrine.
The Glennallen boys were seeded #2. They will play their first game at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, between the winner of an earlier contest between #3 SuValley and #6 Nenana.
The double-elimination playoff continues on Friday and Saturday, March 13 and 14.
The winners and runners-up in both the girls and boys playoffs advance to the State 2A Tournament in Anchorage on March 19-21.
Called March Madness, Alaska Style, the ASAA playoff is the highlight of the Alaska high school basketball season.
Since the implementation of the statewide playoff system in 1983, the Cordova boys have never won a state title at either the 3A or 2A level. The Cordova Lady Wolverines captured the 3A title in 1987.
