Summer activities are back on for Cordova youth

Now that things are opening back up, we are excited to see youth activities return to Cordova. Here is a comprehensive list of local camps and social programs, ranging from science to sports, that your child is sure to enjoy.

ROBOTICS CAMPS

• June 7, 9, 11: Elementary ages 6-10, 9 a.m.-noon
• June 14: Middle school ages 11-15, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Explore basic concepts of robotics and engineering through a variety of fun hands-on activities and games in the CHS Tech Lab (back door). Elementary campers will build cool things, interact with robots, and see a 3D printer in action. Middle school campers will get to play with and build robots, learn about 3D printing, laser cutting, electronics and wiring, coding, and design as you assemble and customize an autonomous robot. No prior robotics experience required. There will also be an opportunity for those interested to come back sometime in the last two weeks of June and learn more, but that’s a flexible option.

CHRISTIAN CENTER YOUTH CAMP

• Ages 6+, meet at the Homeport on Tues. & Thurs. 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

This camp focuses on teaching bible lessons, focusing on seeing Jesus throughout the Old Testament, and fun outdoor activities, including hiking Haystack Trail, Sheridan Glacier, cooking over an open fire, canoeing and more. Lunch provided. Drop-ins welcome.

DEVELOPMENTAL BASKETBALL LEAGUE

• July 2-Aug. 7
• Open to ages 5-13 (or up to 8^th grade)

Player groups will be divided into three age categories with expectations dependent on age level. Each player will have a 60-minute practice once a week and play one game every Saturday.

Lunch Art Program

• June 8-Aug. 13
• Toddler-1^st grade: 11 a.m.-noon
• 2^nd grade and up: 12:30 p.m.-1:30 p.m.

Summer Camps

• June 22-25: 3^rd & 4^th grade, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
• July 6-9: 1^st & 2^nd grade, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
• July 19-23: 5^th to 7^th grade, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Running Camps

• Aug. 2-6
• Girls on the Run: 3^rd to 6^th grade, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
• Let Me Run: 4^th to 8^th grade, 1:30 p.m.-5 p.m.

BIONIC Teen Center

Open to teens to hangout, watch movies, and play board games. Closed during summer youth activities.

The Cordova Family Resource Center is offering an array of summer youth programs, including arts and crafts, outdoor games, fishing, swimming, hiking, field trips, running and confidence building activities. Lunch provided.

This 5-week program for ages 9 and younger will teach players about the basic principles of soccer while promoting physical activity, teamwork, and good values. Program fee is $25.

H2O Day Camps are a great time to be active and have fun in the outdoors while learning about the amazing landscape that surrounds Cordova. Each day is filled with hands-on science activities, games and adventures. During the week at camp, hike in the rainforest, observe glaciers up close, canoe through the wetlands of the Copper River Delta and explore Orca Inlet. By the end of the week, you will be able to see for yourself that from headwaters to ocean…it’s all connected.
