The Alaska Fisheries Development Foundation announced the winners of the Alaska Symphony of Seafood during a Feb. 24 awards ceremony in Juneau, where contestants, industry representatives, media and public attendees gathered to celebrate and toast the winners.

No more masks required on Cordova school buses

Cordova schools will no longer require masking on school buses and vans, Superintendent Alex Russin announced in a Feb. 28 letter.

Prop 1 passes in Cordova election; mayoral race too close to call

Cordova voters passed Proposition 1 on Tuesday, March 1, supporting a $2 million loan to help fund the South Harbor rebuild with an initial count of 756 yes votes and 52 no votes. Preliminary election results have been tallied and released by the city clerk early on Wednesday, March 2, with 827 ballots counted.

Polls open for Election Day in Cordova

Cordova residents go to the polls on March 1 to elect a new mayor, city council members and school board members and to decide on a $2 million ballot proposition to help finance rebuilding of the city’s South Harbor. Polls are open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Cordova Center Community Room A.

Processors plan to purchase 52M Bristol Bay salmon in 2022

Commercial salmon processors have advised the Alaska Department of Fish and Game via the 2022 preseason processor capacity survey that they are ready to purchase 52 million fish in 2022, with a daily processing capacity of 3 million salmon.

USACE urged to improve partnership with tribal communities

Two members of Congress serving on House committees dealing with water resources are urging the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to improve its relationship with tribal communities as they work to resolve local water resources issues.
