Books in a Library

The staff at the Cordova Public Library had a great June and July providing learning workshops for the Summer Reading program this year; learning to hula hoop on the North Star Theatre stage was a definite highlight!

Now the staff is ready to re-start our Fall/Winter programming schedule.

On Sept. 12, Teen Art with Paula Payne will begin once again from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. every Wednesday. For more information about this art opportunity talk to Paula. Teen Art is financially supported by the city of Cordova and the Cordova Historical Society and Museum and the Rachel Wiseheart Art and Music Fund.

Anna Hernandez will be ready to read to “Little Ones at Storytime” from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. beginning Wednesday, Sept. 12. Join Anna for stories, songs, and finger plays. Geared toward preschool ages.

Mug-Up (formerly Senior Books and Coffee) will begin again from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 25. Join the library staff for introductions to new books, new magazines or a featured genre plus some brain games! Learn what’s new at the library while enjoying coffee and a treat. Meet by the fireplace. All ages are welcome. After School Art with Debbie Carlson will begin again from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, September 14. Geared toward grades 1-4. Creative art projects will help your child wind down their week. Held in the Education Room of the Cordova Center, ASA is sponsored in part by the Rachel Wiseheart Art and Music Fund.

Knit Lit, the library book club, will meet twice in September, on Sept. 4 and Sept. 25. Bring your knitting and join in the discussions of books read and chosen by the group. Meet at the fireplace at 7 p.m.

Last, but certainly not least, join Alec Christopher for Sunday movies at the library in the Education Room. Selections are drawn from the Library’s DVD collection. And Alec makes the popcorn!

And remember, you can always just stop in and pick out a book to read!

The Cordova Public Library is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Closed Monday.
