Lady Wolverine finish third in 37th Cordova Tipoff

Cordova’s Lady Wolverines finished third in the 37th Annual Cordova Tipoff here on Jan. 17-19.

Led by Jieller Tabara and Keyona Mattson with 13 points apiece and Abby Bourgeois with 12, CHS cruised by the Palmer JV 53-25 in their opening game Thursday. 

But the Lady W’s could not contain Bridgett Oviok in Friday’s matchup with Tikigaq. The 5-2 sharpshooter poured in 37 points, including six three-pointers and a perfect eight for eight from the free throw line, leading the Harpoonerettes to a 65-50 win. Bourgeois topped Cordova scoring with 18 points; Tabara added 13. 

In Saturday’s game, Cordova struggled against Metlakatla in the first half, finding themselves trailing 26-10 at intermission. Both squads scored 23 points in the second half, but the early deficit proved insurmountable. Cali Sjosted led Cordova with 11 points; Alexis Russell topped the Miss Chief’s scoring with 16.

Pt. Hope went undefeated to finish first; Metlakatla came in second.

Metlakatla’s Alexis Russell was named MVP, and the Palmer JV were picked for the Sportsmanship Award. The All-Tournament team was Abby Bourgeois and Jieller Tabarda of Cordova, Alexis Russell and Lexi Eaton of Metlakatla, Bridgett Oviolk and Angela Lane of Tikigaq, and Dani Farley and Grace Pickett of Palmer.

The Lady Wolverines will be on the road against Conference for Tok on Jan. 25-26.
