Two newly identified cases of the novel coronavirus were fishing industry workers who had no contact with the community at large, officials announced Tuesday, Aug. 4. The two coronavirus-positive individuals have been quarantined, as have all other individuals who had close contact with them, according to a release from the city of Cordova. The two newly identified cases displayed mild symptoms.

The city elevated its public health alert status Friday, July 31 in response to community spread of the virus. Under the current health alert level, the city may request voluntary implementation of measures to prevent spread of the virus, but stops short of implementing significant restrictions additional to those imposed by the state.

The cases reported Aug. 4 were Cordova’s 16th and 17th cases of the virus. Eleven of the community’s 15 previously identified cases have recovered, according to city data. The city’s online coronavirus dashboard will be updated to reflect the two new cases Wednesday, Aug. 5.
