The city of Cordova lowered its public health alert from Level 3 to Level 2 at 8 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20. The decision was made after 14 days had passed with no new cases of the novel coronavirus reported, and with the city’s contact tracing and hospital capacity intact, officials said.

Under a Level-2 alert, the mayor or city manager may request emergency declarations, but no special restrictions such as business closures are mandated. If all goes well, the city will methodically move to lift existing restrictions.

To date, Cordova has reported 17 cases of the novel coronavirus, all of which have recovered. The city’s most recent cases were a pair of newly arrived fishery workers, diagnosed with the virus Aug. 4.
