Law & Order: Jan. 8-14

The following incidents were reported to the Cordova Police Department between Jan. 8-14. Any charges reported in these press releases are merely accusations and the defendant and/or defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.


Friday, Jan. 8
12:59 a.m. While on patrol an officer found a stop sign on Second Street that was knocked over. The city shop was notified and fixed the sign. 11:55 a.m. An officer provided security for the 13-mile airport. 2 p.m. An individual stopped in the police station to drop off a citizen report form. The report was filed and given to an officer to review. 3:38 An officer provided security for the 13-mile airport. 3:45 A caller requested an officer to trespass an individual from their property. An officer responded and found the individual had already left the property.

Saturday, Jan. 9
10:34 a.m. A caller reported an individual for disorderly conduct, an officer responded and removed the individual. 11:09 a.m. A caller requested sand on Ski Hill Road. The city shop was notified. 1:28 p.m. A caller reported a possible break-in at his friend’s house. An investigation is ongoing. 1:44 p.m. A caller reported being harassed by an individual in a car. An officer responded and spoke with the caller. 2:26 p.m. An officer went to a residence for follow-up on a previous incident. 9:31 p.m. A caller requested an officer to trespass an individual from their property. An officer responded and trespassed the individual. 11:29 A caller reported an individual was trespassing on their property. An officer responded and removed the individual.

Sunday, Jan. 10
12:27 a.m. A caller reported the front passenger window of their vehicle had been broken, an officer responded and started an investigation. 2:02 a.m. A caller requested an ambulance for assistance, an officer and the ambulance responded, and the patient was transported to CCMC. 5:44 a.m. The hospital requested an ambulance for a medical transport to the 13-mile airport. The ambulance conducted the transport. 5:33 p.m. An officer responded to an individual’s residence for service of court paperwork. 11:48 p.m. An officer conducted a security check of the post office.

Monday, Jan. 11
An officer conducted an after-hours security check of the 13-mile airport. 12:12 p.m. An officer provided security for the 13-mile airport. 4:00 p.m. An officer provided security for the 13-mile airport. 6:07 p.m. An officer responded to an individual’s residence for service of court paperwork. 8:23 p.m. An officer arrested Wesley Woods, age 31, of Cordova, Alaska, for DUI. Woods posted bail and was released.

Tuesday, Jan. 12
12:16 p.m. An officer provided security for the 13-mile airport. 2:15 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on an individual. An officer conducted the welfare check and found them to be OK. 3:46 p.m. An officer provided security for the 13-mile airport. 5:52 p.m. An officer met with an individual at the police station and fingerprinted them. 7:18 p.m. An officer picked up a loose dog and brought it to the pound. The dog was later returned to its owner. 8:34 p.m. An officer conducted a bar check. 11:25 p.m. A caller requested an officer to assist with removing an intoxicated individual from his house. An officer responded and provided assistance.

Wednesday, Jan. 13
12:08 a.m. An officer contacted an individual for follow-up on a previous incident. An officer conducted an after-hours security check of the 13-mile airport. 5:14 a.m. A caller requested an ambulance for an unconscious male. The ambulance responded and transported the patient to the hospital. 11:10 a.m. An officer met with an individual for follow-up on a previous incident. 11:37 a.m. A caller requested an ambulance for an elderly female who had fallen and could not get up. The ambulance responded and transported the patient to the hospital. 1:53 p.m. The hospital requested an ambulance for a medical transport. The ambulance responded and conducted the transport. 5:13 p.m. Officers along with a U.S. Postal Inspector arrested John Mehelich II, age 34, of Cordova, Alaska, on an arrest warrant for theft in the second degree. Mehelich posted bail and was released.

Thursday, Jan. 14
12:33 a.m. An officer conducted a bar check. 1:00 a.m. An officer conducted a security check of the post office. 1:39 a.m. An officer conducted a welfare check on an individual. 11:43 a.m. An officer provided security for the 13-mile airport. 4:18 p.m. The hospital requested the ambulance for a medical transport, the ambulance responded and conducted the transport.

From 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday – Thursday unless otherwise posted. Closed for lunch 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Credit Card payments accepted for dog licenses, ATV/snow machine registrations and citations at DMV.
