Copper River Highway avalanche hazard moderate and increasing

A dramatic change in weather has begun. Models suggest 2 inches of water Sunday and Monday. Precipitation has started as snow down to sea level, but the freezing level looks to climb to 2,000 feet Monday. This should translate into 20 inches of snow in the upper mountains and a bunch of slop at sea level.

Avalanche hazard remains at moderate with new overnight snowfall

Natural avalanche activity may occur during the heat of the storm, though activity is unlikely to affect the highway. Precipitation looks to slow down Friday morning and taper through the day. Backcountry users should use extra caution through Friday while the snow pack adjusts.
