Cordova Iceworm Swim Team takes second place

Valdez Torpedoes Swim Club hosted its annual Banana Swim Meet on April 8-9. Thankful for the ferry schedule, 24 Cordova Iceworm swimmers attended the meet with families and coaches, along with YMCA from Anchorage, and Chugiak Athletic Club (CAC) from Eagle River.

CHS basketball coach wraps up season

Recently CHS Boys Basketball Coach Jakes Borst found time to wrap up a challenging season for his Wolverine squad. “I'm glad to have this first season in the books,” he said. “This basketball season came with a lot of ups and downs. It was a long-awaited return of an actual season after a year and a half absence.”

Cordova’s basketball season ended at Conference Playoffs on March 10-12 in Tok. The CHS boys, seeded No. 3, lost to Effie Kokrine 50-34 in the first round on March 10, topped SuValley 61-53 in round 2 on March 11, and were eliminated by Tok 55-39 in the third round.

It’s a whole new season, as 2A Interior Conference playoffs are set to begin March 10 at Tok. Everyone starts out with a fresh 0-0 won loss record in the three-day double-elimination shootout, with the top two finishers advancing to the State 2A tournament in Anchorage on March 17-19.

Midway through a week-long trip for conference basketball action, the Cordova Lady Wolverines picked up a pair of wins. On Feb.16, they topped Tok 37-23. The next day, they defeated Effie Kokrine in Fairbanks 43-27.

Following the Valdez Elks tournament on Feb. 10-12, the Cordova Wolverines hit the road for a six-game seven-day road trip to all the Interior Conference schools except SuValley.
