Christmas under COVID. Who would have imagined, when all this started for us back in March, that we would still be struggling with the coronavirus? With positive reports on the vaccine front, it’s time to recall Winston Churchill’s words: “This is not the end, or even the beginning of the end, but it is perhaps the end of the beginning.” It’s not time to loosen our grip.

Since the pandemic, it has been my prayer that each of us would find opportunities to reflect on our own faith and relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and His Church. Whatever it is that our hearts and souls desire, whether we realize it or not, our ultimate desire is Jesus Himself, for this reason, we are filled with joy and consolation at Christmas to know that all that we hoped for has been fulfilled in the person of the Christ Child.

This year we cannot celebrate Christmas where and how we would like: in church, with our families, with friends and relatives, but we are always filled with hope. No matter how adverse the circumstances are, Jesus comes into the world as light and takes his place among us. In the midst of all our current challenges and concerns, the love of God the Father is made manifest to us in the wonderful gift of His Son, Jesus.

May you be filled with the wonder of Mary, the obedience of Joseph, the joy of the angels, the eagerness of the shepherds, the determination of the magi, and the peace of the Christ child. Almighty God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit bless you now and forever.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
