Rummage Sale

A rummage sale will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday until May 18 at the Salvation Army on Main Street. For more information call Steve Leppert at 907-429-6262. 

Fishing Web Recycling Event

Copper River Watershed Project and Alaskan Brewing Co.’s Coastal CODE program are teaming up to host a one-day only Fishing Web Recycling Event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 18. Bring your old fishing nets to the recycling container behind the Cordova Harbormaster Lot or contact CRWP to arrange drop-off prior to the event. Volunteers will be on hand to assist fishermen in stripping the nets and removing any non-nylon material. To volunteer to help strip nets for recycling, email shae@copperriver.org or call (907) 424-3334. 

Grand Opening

The Cordova Alaska Chamber of Commerce invites the community to a grand opening of Cordova’s newest café. Stop by for espresso, baked goods, soups and a shared community space at Kayak Cafe starting at noon on Saturday, May 18 at 524 2nd Street.

The Cordova High School graduation will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 18 at the high school gymnasium.

Used book sale

The Hospital Auxiliary will be hosting a used book sale between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. until May 23 in the basement of the hospital. Hardbacks are $1; paperbacks 50 cents. There are also puzzles and DVDs for sale by donation. Proceeds will go to the Hospital Auxiliary.

Membership Drive and Annual Meeting

Cordova District Fishermen United is hosting a membership drive and annual meeting on Friday, May 24 at the Pioneer Igloo. Cordova Cleanup Day

The Cordova Chamber of Commerce is hosting Cordova Cleanup Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 25. Meet at the Cordova Center at 10 a.m. to get bags, gloves and location assignments. Participants meet at noon at the Cordova Center for a barbeque lunch, free for all volunteers. Volunteers will also receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win door prizes.

Become a HAM

Cordova Amateur Radio Club (CARC) is hosting HAM radio exam courses. To study for the Technician, General, and/or Extra level exams, visit hamradiolicenseexam.com. Tests will be taken at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Monday, June 3 at the Fire Department Training room. There is a fee of $15 and pre-registration is required. Fisheries Achievement Award reception

Prince William Sound Science Center invites everyone to attend their annual Fisheries Achievement Award reception at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 8 at the Prince William Sound Science Center. This event honors an individual or group for making a significant contribution toward the sustainable use of fishery resources in Prince William Sound or the Copper River regions.

Gospel sing-along

Join members of the St. George Episcopal Church on Tuesdays from 4-5 p.m. at the Cordova Community Medical Center for their Tuesday gospel sing-along, started in honor of Frances Mallory, and led by Christina Vican and Rev. Knit & Lit Book Club

Story Time

The last Story Time for little ones with youth services librarian Anna Hernandez will be from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 22 in the Cordova Public Library. Join Anna one last time before summer season kicks off for stories, songs, and finger plays, geared toward preschool ages. Summer Reading will start in June. Date to be announced.

Open studio life drawing

An open studio life drawing class Wednesdays from 6-9 p.m., began Jan. 30 at the Cordova Center education room. A model fee donation of $5-10 is suggested and drop-ins are welcome. For more information call Paula Payne at 907-424-6667.
