School district will provide summer meals for children

The Cordova School District is participating in the Summer Food Service Program, which provides meals to all children up to 18 years of age. Breakfast will be served from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mt. Eccles Elementary School in Cordova.

Cordova’s Tom Carpenter joins Alaska Board of Fisheries

In Alaska Board of Fisheries meetings beginning this fall and for the next three years, Cordova’s own Tom Carpenter, a veteran commercial harvester, will be on board to give the board a fresh perspective on an area that the board hasn’t had in decades.

Anchorage students clear marine debris from PWS beach

Forty-two students from Anchorage’s Dimond High School on a recent environmental field trip cleaned up 122 pounds of marine debris from a Prince William Sound beach, including Styrofoam blocks water bottles, oil cans and buckets.

Crewmember medevaced from Cordova area fishing vessel

A 68-year-old crewmember was medically evacuated on Tuesday, May 17, from a commercial fishing vessel near Cordova.

Second opener for Copper River District set by ADF&G

A second 12-hour opener for the Copper River District commercial salmon fishery was set for Thursday, May 19, by biologists from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game in Cordova, despite concerns of some harvesters over icy water conditions and a slow sockeye salmon run.
